Kenyan striker Catherine Khaemba made an encouraging start to life at Greek side Panetolikos after scoring on her debut in their 2-0 victory over Pigasos in the Women's Second Division at the weekend.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Khaemba expressed her happiness after finding the back of the net in her first appearance for the club, helping Panetolikos secure all three points as they continued their campaign in the Greek league.
"It is a great feeling scoring on my debut. At first I felt the pressure but I told myself to relax and play my game, and thankfully I delivered in my first match. I feel so good," Khaemba said.
The forward, however, insists that individual recognition is not her main priority, with her focus firmly on helping the team win trophies this season.
Despite opening her account on debut, Khaemba said she was more interested in contributing to Panetolikos' collective success than competing for the league's Golden Boot.
"Being top scorer is not my priority for now. My goal is to help the team win our matches. If I get the chance to score, I will score as many goals as possible," she added.
Her immediate impact offers an encouraging start as she looks to establish herself at the club and play a key role in its ambitions this season.
Panetolikos have collected nine points from their opening three matches and sit second in the standings, level on points with leaders AS Niriides Fthias, who hold top spot on goal difference.
With both teams maintaining perfect starts after three games, Panetolikos will be keen to sustain their form as the race for the top position continues.
Khaemba's debut goal is an early boost for the club as they pursue their targets, with the Kenyan forward determined to make her contribution count towards the team's success.
