By Zoila Palma: David Green, founder of the American retail chain Hobby Lobby, says he gave up more than $22 million in Halloween merchandise sales after deciding that selling the products conflicted with his Christian faith.
According to a segment on Newsmax’s “National Report”, Green recalled that the company had generated millions of dollars from Halloween merchandise before he felt spiritually compelled to stop selling the items.
“I was carrying Halloween merchandise as an example and we sold over $22 million worth of it,” Green said.
He described Halloween as “a dark holiday and a celebration of death,” expressing concern about merchandise featuring blood and horror.
Instead, Hobby Lobby offers seasonal decorations associated with autumn and Thanksgiving, including pumpkins, scarecrows and leaves.
Green said his decision reflects a broader commitment to maintaining the company’s religious principles, even when doing so means sacrificing potential profits.
“We will never compromise our Christian faith or our integrity for more money,” he said, adding that he believes God has blessed the company in the long term.
