Dawn raids on foreign-oriented karaoke clubs in Bangkok and Rayong have exposed suspected drug dealing, prostitution and official corruption. In Bangkok, a 4 am narcotics raid netted 14 arrests, including 13 Vietnamese nationals, after police uncovered ketamine sales. Meanwhile, Deputy Interior Minister Polpeera Suwannachawi led raids on four unlicensed Chinese-oriented KTV clubs in Rayong. Claims of ฿10,000–฿30,000 monthly protection payments triggered a corruption investigation and the transfer of the local police chief. Furthermore, immigration police are investigating more than 100 Chinese nationals and ten suspected illegal foreign workers. The separate operations follow earlier Bangkok nightlife crackdowns, although no coordinated national campaign has been confirmed.

Suspected prostitution, illegal foreign workers and claims of monthly protection payments have triggered a widening investigation. By Saturday evening, a local police chief had been transferred from his command.
Anti-corruption investigators are now examining possible payments to government officials. Separately, immigration police are investigating more than 100 Chinese nationals found during the Rayong inspections.
Bangkok karaoke raid nets 14 arrests as police uncover ketamine sales to Thai and foreign customers
The Bangkok operation struck Paradise Karaoke & Restaurant in Bueng Kum district at approximately 4 am on Saturday, 17 October. Officers from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau stormed the establishment following days of undercover surveillance.
Police from Khok Khram Police Station supported the operation. Inside, investigators arrested Vietnamese customers and employees suspected of involvement in ketamine offences.
The raid followed an earlier police attempt to arrest a suspected drug seller at the same establishment. That operation ended when the suspect escaped through interconnected private karaoke rooms.
This time, officers arrived with judicial warrants and a larger enforcement team. The arrests followed an investigation into suspected ketamine sales to Thai and foreign customers.
In parallel, Deputy Interior Minister Polpeera Suwannachawi led raids against four KTV establishments in Rayong’s Pluak Daeng district. All four were operating without the required entertainment licences.
Two were also suspected of concealing prostitution behind their karaoke operations. Furthermore, investigators uncovered claims that government personnel received monthly payments ranging from ฿10,000 to ฿30,000.
Rayong police chief transferred as corruption inquiry follows raids on four unlicensed Chinese KTV clubs
The allegations quickly brought anti-corruption investigators into the case. Rayong Provincial Police also ordered the transfer of the local police superintendent.
At the same time, the Immigration Bureau launched an urgent investigation into Chinese nationals and suspected illegal foreign workers. The Rayong operation consequently expanded far beyond its initial licensing inspections.
Both operations targeted karaoke establishments serving foreign customers. However, the Bangkok investigation concerned suspected narcotics distribution, while Rayong officials concentrated on unlicensed entertainment businesses.
There is no confirmed operational connection between the two operations. Their timing nevertheless follows earlier police enforcement against Bangkok entertainment venues.
The Bangkok investigation began late on 12 October. Narcotics officers had received information that reception staff at Paradise Karaoke were secretly selling ketamine. The suspected transactions involved customers using private entertainment rooms inside the establishment. Investigators therefore began monitoring the premises at 370 Soi Nuanchan 28, off Nuanchan Road.
Undercover ketamine deal at Bangkok karaoke bar ends in escape before police secure search warrants
Surveillance continued into the early hours of 13 October. At approximately 1.03 am, investigators observed a suspected sale involving two grammes of ketamine. The reported price was ฿2,200. Officers immediately attempted to apprehend the suspected seller, but the operation failed to secure an arrest.
The suspect escaped through a network of interconnected karaoke rooms and entrances. Despite the escape, officers recovered two packets containing powdered and crystalline ketamine. The evidence became part of the continuing narcotics investigation. Police subsequently sought judicial warrants to return to the premises.
On 15 October, the Criminal Court issued arrest warrant No. 733/2569. Investigators obtained search warrant No. 121/2569 the following day. Armed with both warrants, officers prepared another operation against the karaoke business. This time, the enforcement team included Narcotics Suppression Bureau personnel and Metropolitan police.
Police Colonel Chokchai Warasat, deputy commander of Narcotics Suppression Division 1, led the investigation. Officers from Khok Khram Police Station, under Metropolitan Police Division 2, joined the operation. The combined force entered Paradise Karaoke & Restaurant at approximately 4 am on Saturday.
Police arrest 13 Vietnamese and one Thai woman as Bangkok karaoke raid exposes suspected ketamine trade
Inside the premises, police searched for drugs and suspects linked to the earlier investigation. Officers arrested 14 people, including 13 Vietnamese nationals and one Thai woman. The arrests involved suspected commercial drug distribution, possession and consumption. Notably, those apprehended included both customers and employees of the establishment.
Among the principal suspects was 39-year-old Vietnamese woman Thi Thi Nguyen. She was named in the Criminal Court arrest warrant issued on 15 October. Investigators also arrested 38-year-old Vietnamese national Tran Van Phap. Both were accused of jointly selling ketamine without authorisation for commercial distribution.
Ketamine is classified as a Category 2 psychotropic substance under Thai law. The accusations against Nguyen and Phap concern suspected sales inside the karaoke establishment. Their cases were subsequently referred to Narcotics Suppression Division 1 investigators. The other arrests involved separate accusations relating to possession or consumption.
Two additional Vietnamese men were arrested for possessing ketamine for personal use. Separately, police arrested ten people for consuming the drug. That group comprised five Vietnamese men, four Vietnamese women and one Thai woman. The arrests brought the total number of suspects to 14.
Six grammes of ketamine seized as police examine foreign clientele and suspected drug sales in Bangkok
During the search, officers recovered another three grammes of ketamine. Police reported six grammes seized across the entire investigation. That total included evidence recovered during the earlier undercover operation. Investigators therefore distinguished the drugs recovered on Saturday from the overall seizure.
Following the raid, Nguyen and Phap were transferred to Narcotics Suppression Division 1. The remaining 12 suspects were taken to Khok Khram Police Station for legal proceedings. Two suspects now face accusations of commercial ketamine distribution. Another 12 face charges involving possession or consumption.
The nationality of the suspects was a striking feature of the operation. Thirteen were Vietnamese, while the remaining suspect was Thai. Police also confirmed that the suspected drug sales involved Thai and foreign customers. However, investigators have not established the nationality breakdown of the establishment’s regular clientele.
The available reports do not identify Paradise Karaoke as a recognised destination for Western expatriates or tourists. Nor have police established that Vietnamese customers dominated the business. The presence of Vietnamese suspects does not determine the nationality of all customers. Nevertheless, the investigation confirms that foreigners were among those served by the establishment.
Rayong raids expose four unlicensed Chinese-oriented KTV venues and suspected prostitution operations
The business operated as Paradise Karaoke & Restaurant, also reported as Paradise KTV. Its address places it in the Nuanchan area of Bangkok’s Bueng Kum district. The investigation focused on suspected drug transactions inside its private entertainment rooms. Police have not publicly identified the ultimate owners of the establishment.
Investigators have also not disclosed whether the suspected ketamine supply extended beyond the karaoke business. The available information identifies two suspected commercial sellers and 12 other suspects. It does not establish a wider distribution network or additional establishments involved in the transactions.
The Rayong operation, by contrast, involved four separate entertainment businesses and a much broader investigation. Deputy Interior Minister Polpeera Suwannachawi personally led the inspections in Pluak Daeng district. Officials from the Department of Provincial Administration supported the operation. The establishments catered predominantly to Chinese customers, according to investigators.
The four venues were identified as Qing Ren KTV, Xing Wei KTV, World Party KTV and Grand Hyatt KTV. All were operating without the required entertainment establishment licences. Officials also suspected two of them of providing prostitution services behind their karaoke businesses. The inspections uncovered private entertainment rooms, female attendants and alcohol services.
Chinese payment platforms and claims of monthly protection money widen investigation into Rayong KTVs
Investigators described expensive service charges and a customer base composed almost entirely of Chinese nationals. The establishments operated in Pluak Daeng, an important industrial district of Rayong province. Their clientele therefore differed from the less clearly defined customer base identified in the Bangkok investigation.
Another discovery concerned the businesses’ payment arrangements. Officials reported that the venues accepted payments through WeChat Pay and Alipay, two Chinese electronic payment platforms. Some reports indicated that certain establishments did not accept Thai baht. Investigators consequently began examining their financial arrangements and ownership structures.
The inquiry includes possible Chinese investment and connections involving Thai-Chinese business interests. However, investigators have not established that the payment systems were used for money laundering. Nor has illegal foreign ownership been proven. The ultimate ownership of the four businesses remains under investigation.
The Rayong case became more serious when claims emerged concerning payments to government personnel. One person claiming to manage an establishment described monthly payments ranging from ฿10,000 to ฿30,000. The money was reportedly paid in connection with arrangements involving government agencies. Investigators also uncovered information suggesting intermediaries handled contacts with officials.
Anti-corruption investigators examine suspected payoffs as Rayong provincial police transfer local chief
Those claims opened a separate line of inquiry into possible protection payments. Officials began examining whether government personnel had received money from the unlicensed businesses. The investigation also concerns the possible involvement of intermediaries. However, no named official has been found criminally responsible for accepting payments.
In response, the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission’s Region 2 office began examining the information gathered during the inspections. Regional director Anongnat Cheewananthakul confirmed that investigators had obtained evidence concerning the possible involvement of several government agencies. The inquiry now covers suspected payments and possible official misconduct.
Investigators must determine whether money changed hands and identify any officials involved. They are also examining the reported role of intermediaries. The findings could establish whether the alleged payment arrangements involved individual personnel or contacts across several agencies. For now, the claims remain under investigation.
The revelations were followed by immediate action within Rayong Provincial Police. On Saturday, 17 October, provincial police commander Police Major General Pramote Ngampradit ordered the transfer of Pluak Daeng’s police superintendent. Police Colonel Nawin Sinthurat was relieved of his existing command responsibilities.
Transferred police superintendent faces inquiry as immigration officers check over 100 Chinese nationals
He was reassigned to the Rayong Provincial Police Operations Centre while an investigation proceeds. The order followed the discovery of the unlicensed businesses and claims concerning protection payments. Significantly, the transfer removed the officer responsible for the local police station’s command.
The reassignment was an administrative measure rather than a criminal finding. Investigators have not established that Police Colonel Nawin received money or participated in misconduct. The corruption inquiry must determine whether any officials accepted payments and identify those responsible.
On another front, the Immigration Bureau launched an urgent investigation into foreign nationals found during the Rayong inspections. Immigration Bureau Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Noppasin Poolsawat ordered checks involving more than 100 Chinese nationals. Officers were instructed to examine visas, immigration status and possible employment offences.
Investigators also identified ten foreign women suspected of working illegally. Their immigration documents and employment arrangements are now under examination. In addition, officers are investigating the possible responsibility of the businesses’ operators. The immigration inquiry therefore extends beyond the original entertainment licensing offences.
Rayong immigration inquiry expands as separate enforcement teams investigate karaoke club operations
The presence of Chinese nationals during the inspections does not itself establish immigration violations. Officers must determine whether individuals breached visa or employment conditions. Likewise, investigators must establish whether the ten foreign women worked without authorisation. The available information does not confirm how many immigration prosecutions will follow.
The Rayong investigation now involves several enforcement agencies pursuing different suspected offences. Provincial administration officials identified unlicensed entertainment operations and suspected prostitution. Immigration officers are examining foreign nationals and employment arrangements. Separately, anti-corruption investigators are pursuing claims involving payments to government personnel.
The local police command has also changed while those inquiries continue. The transfer followed the high-profile operation led by Deputy Interior Minister Polpeera. It remains the most significant administrative action reported since the inspections. However, the anti-corruption investigation has not established criminal responsibility against the transferred superintendent.
The Bangkok and Rayong operations were conducted through different chains of command. In Bangkok, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau initiated the investigation following specific intelligence about ketamine sales. Metropolitan police subsequently assisted with the raid. They also assumed responsibility for 12 suspects after the arrests.
Separate Bangkok and Rayong raids follow earlier nightlife inspections but no national campaign confirmed
Accordingly, the Bangkok raid was not simply a Metropolitan Police Bureau nightlife inspection. It was a narcotics investigation supported by local police. In Rayong, the operation originated with the Interior Ministry’s Department of Provincial Administration. Provincial police, immigration officers and anti-corruption investigators subsequently became involved.
There is no confirmed evidence that the two operations formed part of a single national campaign. However, Bangkok police had already been conducting inspections against entertainment establishments before the latest raids. On 14 September, Thai Examiner reported enforcement action involving 17 venues in Wang Thonglang district.
Two karaoke establishments faced action for selling alcohol outside permitted hours. Investigators were also examining suspected prostitution, human trafficking, drug offences and possible foreign nominee business arrangements. That earlier operation involved Metropolitan police and preceded the October investigations by more than a month.
The September inspections therefore provide an earlier example of enforcement against Bangkok nightlife businesses. However, no operational connection has been established between those inspections and the Paradise Karaoke raid. Nor has a formal connection been confirmed between the Bangkok narcotics operation and the Rayong crackdown.
Bangkok ketamine arrests and Rayong KTV closures expose distinct offences and different foreign clientele
The latest cases also concern different suspected criminal activities. At Paradise Karaoke, investigators concentrated on ketamine distribution, possession and consumption. In Rayong, officials initially targeted unlicensed establishments and suspected prostitution. The subsequent corruption claims and immigration inquiries substantially widened the provincial investigation.
The customer profiles present another important difference. Rayong investigators described establishments catering almost exclusively to Chinese nationals. In Bangkok, police referred to Thai and foreign customers without providing a nationality breakdown. Neither investigation has established that the venues primarily served Western expatriates.
The Rayong establishments were also associated with Chinese electronic payment systems. By comparison, no similar financial arrangements have been reported in the Paradise Karaoke case. The Bangkok investigation instead centred on an observed ketamine transaction, judicial warrants and the subsequent arrests.
Police have already brought the 14 Bangkok suspects into the criminal justice process. Nguyen and Phap face accusations of jointly selling ketamine for commercial distribution. The remaining suspects face possession or consumption charges. Investigators have not announced further arrests or identified additional businesses connected with the suspected sales.
Rayong corruption inquiry probes protection payments as immigration police examine Chinese KTV workers
In Rayong, the four unlicensed establishments have been closed following the Interior Ministry operation. Investigators are examining possible prostitution, illegal employment, immigration offences and suspected official corruption. The ownership and financing of the businesses also remain under scrutiny.
The anti-corruption investigation is particularly significant because it concerns possible payments to officials responsible for enforcement. Claims of monthly sums ranging from ฿10,000 to ฿30,000 are now being examined. Investigators must establish whether the payments occurred, who arranged them and which officials received money.
Meanwhile, immigration officers must determine the status of the Chinese nationals encountered during the inspections. They are also examining the employment of ten foreign women. The businesses’ operators face further scrutiny over possible responsibility for immigration and employment offences.
