New Delhi: Tata Group-owned Tejas Networks and state-owned C-DoT have asserted that their equipment deployed at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) meets or exceeds quality-of-service benchmarks set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).
The companies were reacting to a BSNL submission to the telecom regulator regarding proposed new quality-of-service norms. BSNL had requested a relaxation or a phased compliance timeline, citing the "asymmetric obligation of indigenous (Make in India) sourcing", a mandate not followed by other private telecom operators.
"As Indian telecom-equipment and solution providers continue to mature their product offerings to match globally proven alternatives, BSNL's network performance on stringent, technology-agnostic benchmarks is inherently constrained by factors outside its direct control," BSNL told Trai while submitting its response to the draft amendments in the quality-of-service norms for access and broadband services. The state-run telco reiterated its comments during an open house discussion on the matter recently.
When ET reached out to Tejas Networks and C-DoT regarding BSNL's comments concerning indigenous equipment, both companies stressed that the equipment is compliant with 3GPP standards and meets or exceeds Trai benchmarks.
