KOTA TINGGI: Three women were arrested here yesterday afternoon to assist in investigations involving fake medical certificates (MCs) used to deceive employers in the district.
District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the three women, aged between 22 and 23, were detained at 3.20pm.
He said the arrests followed a police report lodged by a medical officer from a private clinic regarding fake MCs at 2.47pm on Oct 5.
"Initial investigations revealed the first suspect is believed to have purchased a fake medical certificate before submitting the document to her employer.
"The second suspect acted as a middleman to help obtain the fake medical certificate from the third suspect," he said in a statement today.
Yusof said checks showed that one of the three suspects has a prior record for a narcotics offence.
"Police believe the arrests will assist investigations into several cases involving forged medical leave documents around the Kota Tinggi district.
"The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Section 471 of the Penal Code for using as genuine a forged document. The suspects have been remanded until Thursday to facilitate investigations," he said.
