Jerry Jones made it clear on Wednesday that if his team has a chance to make a move to improve at the trade deadline, he's willing to do it.
For now, it's unclear what the Cowboys are looking for at this year's deadline, but the most obvious move would be to land an edge rusher.
The Cowboys' inability to get stops at a high level has been evident through the first couple of weeks of the season, and adding more pressure on the quarterback could help fix that.
Per the latest report, Dallas could be interested in two candidates.
Both names would be excellent additions in Josh Sweat of the Arizona Cardinals and Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Cowboys – Cardinals EDGE Josh Sweat/Raiders EDGE Maxx Crosby: The Cowboys defense needs help for years to come. Owner Jerry Jones needs more than a rental for a few games to try to get into the playoffs. They need dudes they can hopefully build around.
“Arizona is in full tank mode and will likely make at least three more trades (Sweat, RB James Conner once he is healthy, and a QB)... Jones has a close relationship with both ownership groups and could probably go over the heads of some of their football people to try to get what he wants,” Jason La Canfora wrote.
There seems to be more expectation that Sweat will be available, as the Cardinals have struggled over the past couple of weeks.
Las Vegas is also a questionable team in the sense that it likely isn't a contender, and it already tried to trade Crosby but failed after the Baltimore Ravens backed out of the deal this past offseason.
Crosby would be a better addition, but Sweat is also a very good player and could help this team.
