Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) functionary and Dharapuram byelection candidate Karthika, her husband Muruga Chandrakumar and seven other cadre who were among 12 party cadre arrested by the Dharapuram police on charges of breach of the Election Code of Conduct were granted bail on Thursday night (October 22, 2026) by the Dharapuram Judicial Magistrate.
Factoring in the request of advocate Nanmaran who appeared on behalf of the NTK that Ms. Karthika be granted bail as she had two daughters to care for, Judicial Magistrate Uma Maheshwari issued the bail order, during night hours.
Their release from the Coimbatore Central Jail will be effected on Friday (October 23, 2026), sources said.
The hearing on the bail petition of three other arrested party cadre has also been scheduled on Friday.
