DIMAPUR, OCT 15 (NPN): The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has expressed concern over reports of irregular garbage collection in several colonies despite residents paying the Residential Sanitation Fee (RSF).
In a press statement, DUCCF said it had consistently raised the issue of reliable sanitation services with the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). The federation stated that following discussions involving DMC, DUCCF and Gaon Buras (GBs), a general meeting was held at Lions Club, where the need for improved waste management services was discussed. DMC had subsequently agreed to provide better services to the colonies, following which a fee of Rs. 80 per household was agreed upon in 2024.
However, the federation said services remained inconsistent even at that rate. Following further meetings involving DUCCF and its executive members, the fee was increased to Rs. 100 per household, with the expectation of regular and effective garbage collection.
DUCCF expressed concern that the increased fee had not been matched by dependable services in many colonies. It stressed that sanitation was essential to public health, cleanliness and residents’ dignity. The federation urged DMC to ensure regular garbage collection, maintain a clear schedule and promptly inform affected colony councils of any disruptions.
It also called on colony councils to monitor sanitation services and report shortcomings to the authorities. DUCCF maintained that residents should not be expected to pay the RSF where the corresponding service was not being provided, urging the DMC to address the gaps in consultation with colony councils.
