Together they swam 13,316 laps of Wanneroo Aquamotion’s 25m pool or more than 330km to raise over $35,000 for Telethon.
The inaugural City of Wanneroo Swimathon involved almost 90 swimmers in the 24-hour event over the weekend.
Teams and individuals swam in four-hour blocks, including some children.
Wanneroo mayor Linda Aitken launched the start of the fundraiser on Saturday and returned 24 hours later at the end.
In between, she completed a couple of laps in the pool herself.
“It was fantastic to see so many people come together and challenge themselves in support of Telethon and the incredible work it does across Western Australia,” Mrs Aitken said.
“Every lap contributed to a remarkable fundraising result and showcased the generosity and community spirit that Wanneroo is known for.
“Given the enthusiasm shown by swimmers, volunteers and supporters, we’re keen to explore opportunities to make the Swimathon an annual event.”
