Nongstoin, Oct 13: The West Khasi Hills District administration has invited residents, families, local institutions and community stakeholders to share historical photographs and documents for a community-led exhibition ahead of the district’s Golden Jubilee celebration on October 28, 2026.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nongstoin, aims to create a visual archive chronicling the district’s 50-year journey, from its formation to its growth as a cultural and institutional centre.
The administration has invited people to contribute historical photographs, official records, newspaper clippings, maps and other archival memorabilia.
The materials may cover the district’s formation and early administrative years, traditional practices, local festivals, notable personalities and everyday life. Photographs documenting the development of schools, healthcare facilities, roads and other public infrastructure are also welcome.
The administration has stated that both original physical documents and photographs, as well as high-resolution digital scans, will be accepted. Contributors have been requested to provide brief descriptions mentioning the approximate date, location, people or events depicted, and source of the material.
The deadline for submissions is October 16, 2026. Digital submissions can be sent via WhatsApp to 8798043614, while physical materials can be submitted to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin.
The administration has assured that all physical items will be handled with care and returned to their owners immediately after the exhibition.
Through the initiative, the administration hopes to preserve West Khasi Hills’ rich history and create an authentic record for future generations.
