By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 34-year-old Belize City construction worker has been charged with theft after allegedly taking money from his cousin meant to purchase building materials, only to spend part of it on alcohol.
A park ranger residing on West Canal, reported that her cousin, Kashief Myvette, visited her home on Saturday, October 10, and asked whether she had any construction work available.
The woman reportedly agreed to hire him to cement her bathroom floor and handed him $100 to purchase cement blocks, sand and plumbing materials. She also allowed him to borrow her bicycle to make the purchases.
However, after approximately two hours passed without Myvette returning, the woman contacted his brother and learned that he was at the family residence in Yabra.
She subsequently went there and confronted Myvette, who allegedly admitted that he had spent some of the money and considered part of it payment for the job.
According to the woman, Myvette told her, “I done drink it out I noh got no more money.”
The woman reportedly recovered $50 but demanded the remaining money, explaining that the two had not agreed on a labour fee and that no work had been completed.
Police were called, and the woman requested court action.
On Monday, October 12, Myvette was formally arrested and charged with theft of $50.
