Palma Police report that a 55-year-old driver was found to be three times over the alcohol limit after he was involved in a head-on collision with a car being driven by a woman with her two young children in the back.
The accident happened around 9.15pm on October 3 on the Camí Can Palou, a narrow road connecting Pont d'Inca with Camí Vell de Sineu. The woman suddenly found a car occupying her lane. There was no time to avoid the collision, and the two cars crashed violently.
She called emergencies and mentioned that smoke was coming from one of the engines. She later told police she saw the other driver approaching on a direct collision course. He explained to officers that he thought he was on a one-way road.
She tested negative for alcohol and was taken with her children to a Palma clinic for medical assessment. No serious injuries had resulted from the collision.
The man was not arrested but was placed under formal investigation for a road safety offence.
