From £756k farmhouses to £11.8m villas: Tuscany's property market is catching the eye of wealthy buyers

A luxury Tuscan estate with a cinematic driveway, 11 bedrooms and a panoramic swimming pool has gone on sale.

Poggio Covili overlooks one of Italy’s most distinctive avenues: a perfectly straight, tree-lined drive flanked by towering cypress trees.

The estate is also close to the farmhouse that featured in the 2000 film Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe, adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to its already impressive credentials.

Set in the province of Siena, near the medieval towns of Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino, the estate spans approximately 40 hectares in the Unesco-listed Val d’Orcia.

At its heart is an 800-square-metre stone farmhouse, with 11 bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The grounds also feature a private garden, a panoramic swimming pool and a lake.

Its monumental double avenue of cypress trees has become one of the most recognisable views of the Tuscan landscape.

According to local tradition, the name Poggio Covili preserves the memory of an old inn once frequented by travellers along the Via Francigena.

The estate belongs to the history of the resting places and places of hospitality that, for centuries, welcomed pilgrims, merchants and travellers journeying between Northern Europe and Rome.

The farmhouse currently accommodates four apartments, arranged across the ground and first floors, together with an additional independent bedroom.

'Poggio Covili embodies some of the qualities that increasingly define the world's most exceptional properties: authenticity, a powerful identity and an irreplaceable connection to place,' says Dimitri Corti, founder and CEO of Lionard.

'Its cypress avenue has become a universal image of Tuscany because it captures centuries of agricultural and landscape culture within a single, perfectly composed view.'

It's not the only uber-luxe Tuscany property on the market at the moment.

If you have a cool €10million (£8.4million) to spare, you can get your hands on a three-storey estate a few steps away from Piazzale Michelangelo, offering charming views of Florence's city centre.

Or, for €14million (£11.8million), you could purchase a luxury villa surrounded by Tuscan hills.

Boasting 15th-century architectural elements such as fireplaces and historic floorings, it has also been adapted to modern living, with a jacuzzi and walk-in closet.

There are options available for under the million mark, too.

One building, currently used as a tourist accommodation facility, is on the market for €900,000 (£756,000).

It houses five apartments and a restaurant.

Inside, you can expect exposed beams, stone walls and stunning fireplaces, and on the outside there's a spacious veranda and swimming pool.

A charming farmhouse set against a green backdrop offers a luxury style in Anghiari, a beautiful medieval village between Umbria and Tuscany.

For €930,000 (£782,000), you could get your hands on the rustic property built in a typically Tuscan style with a garden.
