Stefon Diggs’ status for the Washington Commanders’ Monday Night Football clash with the San Francisco 49ers was questionable as he dealt with a hamstring injury. Luckily, the Commanders wide receiver was eventually listed as active to play.
However, Diggs might have gone and picked up another injury early in the game, this time to his upper body.

After Diggs was unable to corral a pass from Jayden Daniels, he immediately took a big hit from 49ers defender Malik Mustapha. From the replay, it looked like Diggs’ right hand made significant contact with the 49ers defender’s helmet. No penalty was called despite it looking like an illegal hit to the head and neck area.
Diggs was later seen on the sideline in some discomfort getting his right hand looked at by Commanders personnel. Luckily for the Commanders, the injury does not appear to be too serious as Diggs has stayed in the game.
Diggs is in his first season with the Washington Commanders. It’s his third team in three seasons after playing for the Houston Texas in 2024 and the New England Patriots in 2025. After bouncing back with a 1,000-yard campaign with the Pats, Diggs has had a slow start in DC. He’s played just four games, making 18 catches for 170 yards and three touchdowns. He missed the Commanders’ 27-27 tie with the New York Giants due to the aforementioned hamstring injury.
Hopefully for the Commanders, this latest hand issue isn’t a big deal for Diggs and it doesn’t keep him out of action like the hamstring injury did.
