The second annual Athene Youth Kickstart Cup drew 90 youth soccer teams to the National Sports Centre from October 10–11, a 23% increase from last year.
A spokesperson said, “The competition was open to boys’ and girls’ teams in the U7, U9 and U11 divisions. The two-day preseason tournament included featured speakers, giveaway prizes for players and performances by majorettes and gombey dancers. Families also enjoyed food vendors, a photo booth and a kids’ fun zone with bouncy castles and games.”
“The Athene Youth Kickstart Cup is one way we are investing in youth development in Bermuda,” said Natasha Scotland Courcy, CEO and General Counsel of Athene Life Re. “Sports teach young people the value of hard work and resilience, as well as what they can achieve as part of a team. We are proud of how the tournament has grown over its first two years and grateful to the players, families, coaches and supporters who have embraced it.”
A spokesperson added, “The winners in each division were:
- U11 boys: FC Bascome Blue
- U11 girls: Vasco Youth Program
- U9 boys: Dandy Town Hornets
- U9 girls: Pembroke Hamilton Club Lady Zebras
- U7 boys: Pembroke Hamilton Club Blacks
