The Caretaker Governor of Western Equatoria State, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, says the state government plans to recruit 2,500 police officers for training to strengthen security and maintain peace across the state.
Governor Badagbu said the recruits would be drawn from the state’s 10 counties.
He said the initial target of 100 recruits per county had been increased to meet the new recruitment target.
Under the training plan, recruits from Yambio, Nzara, Ezo, Tambura and Nagero counties will be trained in Yambio, while those from Ibba, Maridi, Mvolo, Mundri East and Mundri West will undergo training in Maridi County.
The governor directed county commissioners to identify and register eligible candidates in coordination with police authorities.
He also announced plans to establish a committee to oversee the recruitment and training process.
According to the governor, trainers have already been deployed to the Maridi training centre, while food supplies are available in Yambio. He said additional supplies were being delivered to support the exercise.
Governor Badagbu also called for police officers to be assigned to the residences of local chiefs to strengthen community security and help prevent crime.
The recruitment plan is part of the state government’s efforts to increase police capacity and improve security across Western Equatoria State.
However, the government has not announced a timeline for the recruitment and training exercise.
