Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days and fined €255 by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) for leaving the national team’s camp following his omission from the starting line-up last month.
The disciplinary decision was announced on Sunday after the Portugal captain was found guilty of violating Article 160 of the federation’s disciplinary code.
Ronaldo reportedly became frustrated after being left on the bench during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway on September 27, despite warming up for about 30 minutes.
The former Real Madrid forward did not celebrate at full-time and left the team’s camp despite attempts to intervene.
Portugal coach Jorge Jesus reportedly stood firm following the incident, while Ronaldo apologised days later and called for disciplinary action against him.
The FPF’s Disciplinary Council subsequently imposed a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine for the violation.
In a further concession, the council ruled that the suspension would run from the day Ronaldo left the camp, meaning the forward could be available for Portugal’s matches in November if selected.
Ronaldo, one of Portugal’s most decorated players, has scored 146 international goals and won three trophies with the national team.
The 41-year-old is also closing in on the landmark of 1,000 career goals, having reportedly moved within 20 goals of the milestone.
