Afghanistan Free of Polio has called for continued efforts to eradicate the disease in Afghanistan on the occasion of World Polio Day.
On Saturday, October 24, the organization urged families to vaccinate their children against polio.
Afghanistan Free of Polio said every child has the right to grow up free from the risk of polio, adding that families can help secure a future without the disease by ensuring their children are vaccinated.
World Polio Day is observed annually on October 24 to raise public awareness and strengthen vaccination campaigns.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries in the world where polio has not yet been fully eradicated.
The call comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) previously reported six new cases of polio in Afghanistan.
According to the WHO, the total number of reported polio cases in Afghanistan since the beginning of this year has reached 42.
