Seven children, all 13 or 14 years old, were injured in the fire. All seven were initially taken to Södra Älvsborg Hospital in Borås. Two were then transferred to Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital in Gothenburg, and one child was flown by helicopter to the burn center in Linköping.
On Saturday morning, Alexandra Perez Liberg said at a press briefing at Södra Älvsborg Hospital that the condition of the four children being treated there was stable.
“According to an updated report at 8 a.m., the condition of the four hospitalized children remains serious but stable,” she said.
According to Borås Tidning, the two children transferred to Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital suffered minor injuries. There is no updated information yet about the child being treated in Linköping.
Emergency services were alerted to the fire in Fristad, in Borås Municipality, shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday.
“A group of young people have been tinkering in the garage, and a small amount of gasoline has leaked out and caught fire,” Viktor Fritzson, external commander and rescue leader, told Borås Tidning on Friday evening.
The police have filed a report of negligent conduct causing public danger.
“There is no suspect, but we will look into this more closely to find out what happened,” police spokesperson Caroline Nylander said.
