The Director of Mobilisation, Directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Beta Edu, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term will focus on prosperity, following what she described as the completion of the reform stage of his administration.
Edu spoke in Kaduna on Thursday when she led members of the PCC mobilisation team on a courtesy visit to the deputy governor of Kaduna state, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who chairs the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the President’s visit to the state.
“We have gone through the reform phase already. Now it’s time for prosperity,” Edu said, expressing confidence that Nigerians would support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
She said the mobilisation team was working towards securing 40 million votes for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressing the need to engage women at the grassroots rather than relying solely on attendance at campaign rallies.
“Our plan as the PCC mobilisation directorate is to see that we can mobilise at least close to 40 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And we cannot do this without getting down to the grassroots,” she said.
Edu said the campaign would engage women to understand their challenges and develop strategies to reach them through door-to-door campaigns, markets and communities.
She urged women leaders in Kaduna to mobilise support peacefully and without intimidation, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver votes for the President.
“We want to engage with women. We want to find out what their challenges are. We want to find out how best we can get to the grassroots,” she said.
Edu also commended the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani, citing road construction, improvements in public transportation and the revitalisation of primary healthcare as areas where she said the state had made progress.
She particularly praised Dr Balarabe for becoming the first elected female deputy governor in Northwest Nigeria, describing her achievement as a breakthrough for women’s participation in elective politics in the region.
In her response, Dr Balarabe said the state government and the LOC were taking the responsibility of hosting the President’s visit seriously, adding that preparations had been ongoing through a series of meetings.
She urged members of the PCC mobilisation team to contribute wherever necessary to ensure the success of the rally, saying Kaduna’s position as the political capital of the North made it important for the state to demonstrate its organisational capacity.
“We try as much as possible to take any assignment given to us seriously,” she said.
The deputy governor also called on women to play a greater role in mobilising support for the President, urging campaign officials to take their message to communities rather than returning home after the rally.
“Our work as women is to tell all women to be on our side,” she said, adding that the Renewed Hope agenda and the administration’s record should be presented to women at the grassroots.
She expressed confidence that women could achieve their mobilisation goals if they remained focused and worked together.
Edu and the PCC delegation were in Kaduna ahead of the planned APC presidential campaign rally, where the mobilisation team is seeking to strengthen grassroots engagement, particularly among women.
