A featherweight world title bout headlines Saturday’s UFC 333 fight card. Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski takes on undefeated top contender Movsar Evloev at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
It will be Volkanovski’s second title defense of his second 145-pound championship reign. He’s considered the greatest featherweight in the promotion’s history. Fellow UFC great Georges St-Pierre weighed in on the UFC 333 main event and gave his prediction.
“Evloev is someone who’s very strong and he puts a lot of pressure and once he gets a hold of you, he’s very hard to let go,” St-Pierre told Covers.
Volkanovski, 38, will enter the octagon six years older than the 32-year-old Evloev. Whether Father Time has caught up to “The Great” is a legitimate question and will likely be answer this weekend.
“Volkanovski’s good everywhere. He’s the full package. He’s very well-rounded and very smart,” said St-Pierre. “With age, normally your experience improves and you’re smarter. However, your athletic ability starts to diminish a little bit. And sometimes there are things that you used to see coming and now you, they can surprise you.
“Yeah, 38, you’re at sometime at the limit. So, is the best version of Volkanovski in the past? I don’t know. We will find out.”
If the champion comes in as he typically does, how he has in the past, St-Pierre believes he’ll retain the title. “I think if Volkanovski shows up the best of his ability, on top of his game, I think he can do it,” he said.
