Aizawl, Oct 12: Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Monday unveiled development projects worth around Rs 350 crore in Mizoram, describing them as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to transform the Northeast through sustained development and improved connectivity.
Speaking to the press after arriving at Lengpui airport, Scindia said the initiatives would contribute to the development and progress of the region.
Scindia travelled to Tuivamit on the western outskirts of Aizawl, where he inaugurated the Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music for the Northeastern Region and virtually laid the foundation stones for nine projects worth around Rs 350 crore in the presence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
The minister also announced that Aizawl would host the Northeast Bankers’ Conclave on Tuesday, following the previous edition in Agartala.
The conclave, to be held at Mizoram University, aims to improve access to credit in the region and boost investment by facilitating loans for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurs, he said.
Scindia said investments worth nearly Rs 4.5 lakh crore were committed to the Northeast at the Northeast Investors’ Conclave in 2025, with a substantial share going to Mizoram.
Organised in association with the Department of Financial Services, the bankers’ conclave would seek to translate the region’s investment potential into greater economic activity by strengthening access to institutional credit, he said.
“This deepening effort will result in greater economic potential and GDP growth in all our eight states,” Scindia said.
He stressed the need for supporting infrastructure, particularly roads and improved connectivity, adding that these components were included in the projects being taken up in the state.
Scindia is scheduled to attend the Northeast Bankers’ Conclave before leaving for Delhi on Tuesday, officials said.
