By Breaking Belize News Staff: Prime Minister John Briceño has responded to criticism from former Prime Minister Dean Barrow, arguing that his administration remains committed to improving the lives of Belizeans despite challenges within government.
Speaking with reporters following his return from Bangkok, Briceño said Barrow had acknowledged that the People’s United Party administration was doing some things right.
The Prime Minister conceded that his government was not perfect and that mistakes had been made, but insisted that his administration attempts to correct problems when they are identified.
He rejected the suggestion that recent controversies had distracted the government from its broader objectives, maintaining that social justice remains central to its policies.
Briceño also declined to become involved in the internal affairs of the United Democratic Party, saying his priority was maintaining focus within the PUP and delivering on the government’s commitments.
His response follows remarks made by Barrow during an October 8 interview with 7 News, in which the former Prime Minister criticized what he described as serious problems involving governance, dishonesty and divisions within the current administration.
Barrow also acknowledged challenges facing his own party, suggesting that the UDP had not yet developed into a sufficiently strong opposition.
Briceño maintained that his government’s focus remains on addressing the needs of Belizeans rather than becoming distracted by political criticism.
