Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has responded to criticism over conceding sixes, saying that every bowler in the world gets hit and that his main responsibility is to take wickets.
Speaking to reporters during a team practice session at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Rauf said criticism does not affect him and that he remains focused on improving his performance.
He emphasized that pace is an important part of his bowling and that he continues to work on his speed and fitness.
Rauf also expressed his willingness to return to Test cricket, saying domestic cricket has helped him improve his fitness and bowling rhythm.
He admitted that he previously lacked the fitness required to perform effectively in the longer format but believes he is now better prepared after playing four-day cricket.
The pacer said he would be available to represent Pakistan in Test cricket if the team required his services.
Speaking about the ongoing ODI tri-series against England and Sri Lanka, Rauf praised Pakistan’s strong start after victories over both teams.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 37 runs in their opening match before securing an 87-run victory against England in Rawalpindi.
Rauf said the team’s bowling attack, featuring Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, has performed well. He added that he enjoys bowling alongside Shaheen and that the trio’s main responsibility is to take wickets.
However, he stressed that Pakistan must improve its ability to post and defend big totals in ICC tournaments, particularly with teams frequently scoring more than 300 runs in modern cricket.
He said Pakistan should aim to score around 350 runs and defend such totals, while taking wickets during the middle overs remains crucial. He also noted that the ball change after 34 overs can affect the bowling side.
The fast bowler backed Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman to regain their form and praised Pakistan’s middle order for its contributions during the series.
Commenting on the conditions in Lahore, Rauf said the pitch looks fresh and could provide assistance to fast bowlers.
He also welcomed the return of bowling coach Shaun Tait, who has previously worked with Pakistan’s pacers, saying his presence is beneficial for the team.
Pakistan will face England at Gaddafi Stadium on October 25 in the fourth match of the tri-series. The Pakistan Cricket Board has dedicated the fixture to breast cancer awareness, with the national team set to wear specially designed pink kits.
