Curious about its contents, Peris picked it up and unzipped it, only to discover bundles of US dollars and passports inside.
The discovery left her stunned, as she had never experienced anything like it before, and the bag's location made her wonder whether its owner had already left for another destination without realising they had misplaced their belongings.
She looked around, hoping to establish whether anyone was searching for the bag, but did not immediately know what to do next.
Total was USD 15,000
Rather than leave it where she had found it, Peris loaded her luggage into her car and searched on her phone for a number she could call to report the discovery.
She eventually reached the relevant personnel, explained the situation and waited for them to arrive.
According to her account, the personnel came to the parking area, where they counted the money before she handed over the bag.
Peris said she kept imagining the distress the owner might experience upon reaching for the bag and discovering that the money and travel documents were missing.
She reflected on how difficult such a discovery would be, particularly for someone who might have been preparing to travel.
After spending approximately 30 minutes dealing with the matter, Peris was finally able to continue her journey home.
Although her anticipated meal of matumbo and ugali had to wait, she said she was glad she had taken the time to report the discovery and surrender the belongings.
The incident offered a glimpse into an unexpected moment in Peris's day, turning an ordinary day into a decision involving money, travel documents and the possibility of a distressed stranger.
