Dell has started selling a new budget laptop globally. Available with an optional 120 Hz display, the Dell 14S DS14270 also contains upgradeable memory, a choice of modern Intel Wildcat Lake processors and a battery said to last over 20 hours in official tests.
Without warning, Dell has started selling its new 14-inch laptop globally. Starting at $649 in the US, the DS14270 is over 50% cheaper than the DS14260. Meanwhile, Dell charges AUD 1,271.60, CAD 899.99, €821 and £721.20 in Australia, Canada, the Eurozone and the UK, respectively.
Some of this $750 saving can be attributed to the DS14270 containing half as much RAM and storage as the DS14260, though. Specifically, the Dell 14S DS14720 starts with 256 GB of PCIe Gen 3 storage and 8 GB of LPDDR5x-7467 RAM running in single-channel mode.
Alternatively, Dell offers the laptop with 512 GB or 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSDs and 16 GB of RAM, albeit also running in single-channel mode. Moreover, one can configure an 1800p, 120 Hz and 450-nit IPS display instead of Dell's default 1200p, 60 Hz and 300-nit panel.
A 3-cell and 61.2 Wh battery is found across SKUs though, which helps contribute to the laptop's 1.15 kg weight. Reportedly, this battery lasts up to 21 hours when streaming Netflix videos at 150 nits with a 1200p display. Please see Dell's website for more details.
