Bayern Munich have overcome what some named a mini crisis with an emphatic 6-1 triumph over RB Leipzig and now set their sights on a big Champions League duel with Arsenal on Wednesday.
Led by a hat-trick plus an assist by Luis Díaz and a 102nd Bundesliga goal from Harry Kane in his 100th German top flight match, Bayern rebounded strongly from a 2-2 draw in Augsburg and a 3-3 at Viking Stavanger.
The big win against Leipzig also helped their coach Vincent Kompany, who spent the entire game sitting in the dug-out and assistant Aaron Danks giving the players instructions.
Kompany ill
Board member for sport Max Eberl said that Kompany had been suffering from a virus all week and that his mobility was also hampered by a hip problem.
"He is really not feeling well," Eberl said, while pledging that he "will definitely be present" on Wednesday, although it remains open "which role he can play" then.
Kompany did have the energy to walk onto the pitch and embrace Díaz who rebounded just in time from a difficult start into the season with his hat-trick.
Formidable Díaz
"I'm really happy for Lucho. He really earned it," midfielder Joshua Kimmich said.
"He obviously missed a few chances at the start of the season, but he produced such amazing numbers for us last season. He had an excellent game today and was definitely the man tonight."
No Olise and probably no Neuer
Díaz will have to be at his best again on Wednesday when he and Kane must carry the Munich attack because influential Olise, who had a goal and an assist on Saturday, is suspended against Arsenal after being sent off in Stavanger.
Eberl said it also remains to be seen whether goalkeeper Manuel Neuer can return from a foot problem after missing the last two matches.
"It's nothing serious, it's just been a bit of fluid in the foot, nothing dramatic. It was not enough for today, now we'll see whether it's enough by Wednesday," Eberl said.
Jonas Urbig would be the man to replace him again, and the 23-year-old said he was up for the challenge.
"Everyone is ready to play. I hope Manu gets back fit quickly, that's clear. If I'm needed, I'm here," said Urbig, who had little to do against disappointing Leipzig, but conceded one goal in stoppage time to Andrija Maksimović.
Jamal Musiala is also nearing a return from a torn muscle fibre, but Wednesday should be too early, Eberl also said.
Strong home form
Bayern face the Gunners in strong home form: beating Stuttgart 5-1, Union Berlin 7-0 and Leipzig 6-1 in the Bundesliga, plus Bodø/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League.
Premier League champions and Champions League runners-up Arsenal won their league stage duel with Bayern 3-1 in London 11 months ago.
But their last victory in Munich dates back to 2013 and they will have taken notice of Bayern's showing on Saturday.
"The first 60 [minutes] were on another level," Kimmich said. Added Kane: "It was important to make a statement, and we did that from the first minute."
