Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales across Bangladesh will remain suspended for two days on October 15 and 16 following a nationwide shutdown announced by the LPG Gas Business Cooperative Association Ltd.
The association announced the decision at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday. Its president, Selim Khan, said the shutdown was called to protest what traders described as harassment of LPG businesses.
He said LPG dealers were repeatedly facing difficulties over cylinder prices and supply issues, prompting them to suspend sales at shops across the country on Thursday and Friday.
The association warned of tougher protest programmes if its demands were not met.
The announcement comes amid recent changes in LPG prices in the domestic market. On October 4, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) raised the price of a 12-kilogram LPG cylinder by Tk 252 to Tk 1,837.
