Delhi Traders Body Writes To Amit Shah, Opposes Protests In Connaught Place
The New Delhi Traders Association has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah opposing planned protests in Connaught Place, citing significant commercial disruptions and financial losses during the crucial festive season. Speaking on the matter, a representative of the traders body highlighted that demonstrations in Central Park lead to road barricades and traffic restrictions, preventing shoppers from accessing Connaught Place, Janpath Market, and Palika Bazar. Describing the past two months as inflicting severe business drops, the traders body urged the Union Home Ministry to shift demonstrations away from commercial zones to designated protest venues such as Karol Bagh or India Gate. The association expressed security concerns regarding unpeaceful gatherings and flash protests, noting that previous demonstrations saw agitators spilling onto streets from metro stations. With high commercial rents and heavy seasonal stock purchases at stake, traders requested the government prevent protests in Delhi's market hubs.
