The Podanur Train Users’ Association has urged the Salem Railway Division to operate a special train from Podanur/Coimbatore to Tiruvannamalai for Karthigai Deepam on November 24.
A large number of devotees from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and adjoining areas travel to Tiruvannnamalai to participate in the festival. Due to the enormous rush during the festival period, road transport and regular train services are likely to be heavily crowded, causing hardship to devotees, particularly elderly persons, women and children.
Against this backdrop, a special train from Pothanur/Coimbatore to Tiruvannamalai will be beneficial for devotees attending the Deepam Festival, said N. Subramanian, general secretary of the Association, in a representation to Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Railway Division.
The train may be operated through Podanur, Coimbatore, Salem, and Katpadi to Tiruvannamalai, Mr. Subramanian said.
