Ambia's behaviour in court
The clip, seen by TUKO.co.ke, shows Ambia appearing relaxed and at ease during the proceedings, at one point laughing as he faced the court.
He also attracted widespread attention by arriving at the hearing dressed in a T-shirt bearing the words "Bad Boys."
During the October 22 hearing, Magistrate Joan Mati granted investigators 14 days to complete forensic analysis and compile witness statements. A mental assessment for Ambia has also been scheduled, and he remains in custody. The case is next scheduled to be heard on November 5.
How Kenyans reacted to Ambia's conduct
The footage prompted strong reactions from Kenyans on social media, with many questioning Ambia's behaviour and speculating about his motives.
@CopShakurkihara wrote: "The guy is pretending to be mentally ill, atakaa remand one week reality will start kicking in. No judge will ever let such a man back to the streets, he will spend his entire life in Kamiti."
Mohammed Hersi, also known as Mr Optimist, said: "Acting to be mentally unstable....killer must face full consequence of his actions."
@Eleanor1532083 shared a personal account, writing: "It's so painful your child's murderer mimicking you. We went through same situation with the murderer who murdered my nephew."
A user identified as Moses called for the harshest punishment, commenting: "He is not even remorseful. Death penalty."
Marvin Chege offered a more analytical take: "He's trying to fake mental instability so that he can be deemed unfit to stand trial. He can't run from the doctors though..."
@alexmwanzo added: "Wearing a bad boys tee on your trial is nuts though."
The planned mental assessment is expected to determine whether Ambia is fit to stand trial ahead of the November 5 court date.
