Google Chromebooks already have a mandate for nice Fwupd support with the Linux Vendor Firmware (LVFS) while now there is work on improving the Android integration for Fwupd/LVFS.
Richard Hughes posted yesterday on Mastodon that he's merged support in Fwupd for supporting fwupdmgr refresh on Android devices to download metadata from the LVFS. The fwupdmgr update command is also working for getting firmware updates deployed onto the device.
The Red Hat engineer and Fwupd/LVFS lead developer even remarked in his post that the Fwupd support on Android is "very nearly to feature parity at feature parity with Linux and FreeBSD!"
In a follow-up comment he mentioned the plan is for bringing Fwupd/LVFS to "actual Android" with "proper integration". This would make sense especially with the recent Googlebook announcement that is Android-based and considering the long history of Fwupd/LVFS for Chromebooks.
A nice win for this open-source firmware updating solution.
