Kimberly Guilfoyle is expected to return to Florida after leaving her post as US ambassador to Greece, which means giving up the official residence in Athens, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
Sources told the New York Post that Guilfoyle will likely head back to Florida, the state she lived in before her appointment to Athens. The newspaper said her plans after leaving the residence remain unclear.
Her departure also ends her use of Jefferson House, the government-owned residence that comes with the ambassador’s job. The property sits on Panagi Kyriakou Street in Kolonaki, at the foot of Lycabettus Hill.
Guilfoyle agreed on Tuesday to step down after the White House asked her to resign, as Greek City Times reported. She served in Athens for less than a year.
Kimberly Guilfoyle and Florida
Florida had been home to Guilfoyle in recent years, after she moved there from New York. The state is also the base of the Trump family.
The New York Post also published a detailed report on the Athens residence, including the personal decorative touches Guilfoyle added during her time in the role.
Until the White House names a replacement, a career diplomat is expected to run the US Embassy in Athens as chargé d’affaires, the newspaper said.
Previously, Guilfoyle rejected the misconduct allegations made against her in US media reports.
Rubio’s message to diplomats
At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reminded State Department staff of the government’s ethics rules, in a letter Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. Rubio did not name Guilfoyle in the letter.
Rubio told employees he expects them to avoid conflicts of interest, act impartially and not use public office for private gain, as part of showing personal and professional integrity.
In addition, Rubio stressed the Hatch Act, which limits some forms of political activity by federal employees, and the related rules that bar such activity in federal workplaces.
Finally, Rubio said every employee has a personal obligation to follow the government’s ethics rules.
