District Collector Himanshu Shukla flagged off a breast cancer awareness rally organised by the Indian Red Cross Society in Nellore on Saturday. The rally proceeded from Mahatma Gandhi statue to the Red Cross office.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shukla called for widespread awareness among women regarding breast cancer, urging them to recognise early symptoms and undergo timely medical screenings. He emphasised that a family remains strong only when its women are healthy.
The Collector stressed that everyone should prioritise women’s health. “Detecting breast cancer at an early stage leads to better treatment outcomes and increases the chances of recovery. Particularly, women over the age of 40 must undergo screening tests,” he said.
“Women should not hesitate to share their health concerns with others. If they notice lumps in the breast, unusual changes, or any other suspicious symptoms, they should not ignore them but consult a doctor immediately,” the Collector said.
He added that modern technology and improved treatment methods were currently available in the medical field and noted that high-standard medical services were also accessible at cancer hospitals in the district. He urged women not to avoid medical screenings out of fear.
