The stage is all set for the much-awaited ‘Maayer Gomon’ puja carnival, which is scheduled to be held in Agartala on Friday, promising a vibrant celebration of devotion, culture and creativity. The grand event will bring together puja committees, artists, cultural performers, dignitaries and visitors in a colourful spectacle celebrating the spirit of Durga Puja.
The carnival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at a grand ceremony to be organised in front of MTB Girls’ Higher Secondary School. Other members of the state cabinet, senior government officials and other distinguished guests are also expected to remain present at the inaugural programme.
Speaking about the preparations, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that various puja organizers and clubs would participate in the carnival. The event, he said, would provide a common platform for various puja committees to present their artistic creations and celebrate the festival while reflecting the cultural richness of the state.
The ‘Maayer Gomon’ carnival is being planned not merely as a religious procession but as a vibrant cultural platform where Sanatan values, Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary social messages will find expression, he said.
The participating puja committees are expected to showcase creatively designed tableaux, idols and thematic presentations, reflecting different dimensions of society and culture. Alongside the traditional elements associated with Durga Puja, the carnival will highlight messages of social harmony, unity, environmental awareness and responsible citizenship.
The colourful procession and accompanying cultural programmes are expected to create a festive atmosphere across the city, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to experience the grandeur of Durga Puja in a unique format.
Another significant feature of this year’s carnival will be the presence of foreign delegates and representatives of various embassies. Their participation is expected to add an international dimension to the celebration and provide an opportunity to showcase Tripura’s cultural traditions, artistic heritage and festive spirit before guests from different countries.
The participation of international representatives is also expected to strengthen cultural exchange and project Agartala and Tripura as a destination capable of hosting large-scale cultural events with a strong emphasis on tradition and inclusivity.
The carnival will also provide a valuable opportunity for local artists and cultural performers to showcase their talents before a large audience. Performances by artists from Tripura will add colour and vibrancy to the celebrations, while giving local talent a prominent platform to connect with audiences and visitors.
From traditional cultural expressions to contemporary performances, the participation of local artists is expected to make the event more representative of Tripura’s diverse cultural identity.
The Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the grand carnival. Preparations have been made with particular emphasis on the overall presentation, cultural programmes, coordination with participating puja committees and creating a festive ambience for visitors.
The arrangements are aimed at ensuring that the carnival progresses in an organised manner while maintaining the grandeur and visual appeal expected from such a major cultural event. Necessary coordination and logistical preparations have also been undertaken for the participation of dignitaries, foreign delegates, artists and members of the public.
With the city gearing up for the grand celebration, the streets are expected to come alive with colourful decorations, cultural performances and the enthusiastic participation of people from different sections of society.
Last year, the grand carnival brought together faith, tradition, art, culture and social awareness, offering a colourful reflection of Tripura’s cultural identity while celebrating the emotional farewell to Goddess Durga.
