(ANSA) - ROMA, 22 OTT - The Italian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Augusto Massari, visited the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) laboratory in Nootdorp, where he was welcomed by Director Daan Noort. The meeting focused on the process undertaken by the Chemical Laboratory of the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) in Rome to obtain designation by the Organization. “Recognition of our laboratory would represent a significant scientific and institutional achievement for Italy,” stated Ambassador Massari, “because it would further strengthen our country’s contribution to the Organization’s activities, to which Italy is already one of the leading contributors.” Designation requires passing specific proficiency tests. Achieving satisfactory results in three consecutive tests is a fundamental requirement for the analysis of environmental and/or biomedical samples. During the meeting, the importance of expanding the network—which currently comprises 29 designated laboratories—was emphasized. The visit concluded with an in-depth review of the results obtained by the ADM laboratory in the most recent proficiency tests, confirming the value of technical and scientific cooperation between Italy and the OPCW in combating the proliferation of chemical weapons.
