SHILLONG, Oct 24: The East Khasi Hills district administration has removed nearly 200 kg of unused telecom cables and junction boxes as part of a beautification drive directed by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, who inspected several city stretches on Friday, said loose cables between poles have been clamped, while redundant wires and boxes were cleared.
He stated that regulations regarding cable organisation, minimum height and the labelling of junction boxes are now being strictly enforced.
The deputy commissioner has, meanwhile, warned that telecom operators failing to comply will face the removal of their infrastructure.
Baranwal further cautioned that any new cables found hanging loosely will be cut and removed, with the ongoing drive expected to conclude within a month.
