The Ukrainian left the Premier League outfit back in February this year.
It ended six years at the club, having joined Mikel Arteta’s side from Manchester City in 2019.
The midfielder, who could also operate as a left-back, made 69 appearances for the Gunners, scoring twice, and he had a short-lived spell at Nottingham Forest on loan in the 2025/26 season.
He was quickly recalled from the City Ground, where he struggled to hold down a first-team place, and he moved to the Netherlands to join Ajax on a short-term deal.
The former Man City man suffered a season-ending knee injury in his second game for the club against Fortuna Sittard, and his contract expired at the end of June.
Now, however, he has continued training with the Dutch side during his rehabilitation, and the Eredivisie champions announced that the Ukraine international was back in training with the first-team squad on their social media.
While it is not a proper contract that Zinchenko is on, Ajax have confirmed that he will remain at the club’s training base in order to complete his return to full fitness.
It remains to be seen whether he will be offered fresh terms, but the 29-year-old was clearly grateful to them, as was indicated in his statement posted on Ajax’s social media.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to Jordi Cruijff, coach Michel Sánchez and everyone at Ajax for giving me the opportunity to complete my rehabilitation and get back on track,” Zinchenko’s statement read.
“I’m truly grateful to everyone at the club for the warm welcome and incredible support throughout this journey. It means a lot to me.”
