Erling Haaland has surpassed Lionel Messi's record to become the youngest player to score 60 goals in the UEFA Champions League, reaching the landmark during Manchester City's clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday (14 October).
City were trailing 3-0 after a dominant first-half display from the reigning European champions when Haaland headed home a cross from Iliman Ndiaye eight minutes after the break, reports ESPN.
The goal offered City a route back into the contest and took Haaland's Champions League tally to 60 in as many appearances.
At 26 years and 85 days, the Norwegian became the youngest player to reach the mark, narrowly beating Messi, who achieved it at 26 years and 86 days.
Haaland added another goal later in the second half, taking his tally against PSG to five in four matches.
His 60th Champions League goal also marked his 37th in 41 appearances for Manchester City. That put him ahead of former City striker Sergio Aguero, who scored 36 goals in 64 appearances in the competition for the club.
Haaland's scoring record across spells with Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City puts him well ahead of other leading forwards over their first 60 Champions League appearances.
The top scorers over their first 60 appearances are:
• Erling Haaland: 60 goals
• Ruud van Nistelrooy: 48
• Harry Kane: 45
• Kylian Mbappe: 40
• Lionel Messi: 39
• Robert Lewandowski: 39
