Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (October 20, 2026) identified "forces harming the country, those dividing society and a mindset hostile to Indian culture" as three enemies of India, urging people and institutions to unite in the national interest.
“Desh ke maan-samman ko chot pahunchane wali taaqatein, samaj ko baantne wale log, hamari sanskriti se nafrat karne wali mansikta, ye desh ke dushman hain,” (Forces that hurt the nation’s honour and dignity, people who divide society, and a mindset that hates our culture are enemies of the country) he said while addressing a gathering for the Vijayadashami celebration at Delhi’s IP Ground.

He urged people to identify the enemies of the nation and defeat them.
Invoking the ideals of Lord Ram, Mr. Modi described Dasara as a symbol of the triumph of righteousness over evil. He called for a collective commitment to national interest, saying political differences should not come in the way of safeguarding the country.

Call for unity
“Let our thoughts be aligned… all the institutions of the nation, all political parties… let us stand together for the national interest. We must proceed with this very spirit; we must fight together against the enemies of the country,” he said.
The Prime Minister said India’s progress depends on people and institutions working together to protect the country’s values, heritage and social cohesion. He said that even in the face of major crises, citizens should not remain passive but recognise their capabilities and work towards solutions.
Reiterating his vision of a self-reliant and developed India, Mr. Modi urged people to translate their determination into strength through hard work and confidence in the country’s resources. He said obstacles should not deter the nation from moving forward.
Highlighting social justice and inclusive development, he said the welfare of the poor and underprivileged remains a priority for his government. Invoking the concept of “Ram Rajya”, he said it represents a society free from discrimination, where everyone has access to justice and equal opportunities.
He further emphasised that power should be exercised in the service of the people rather than as a means of control, and that governance must focus on improving lives and ensuring public welfare.
