Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has made eliminating terrorism the province’s top priority. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has pledged federal support to strengthen security forces and restore peace. Both leaders shared their positions during a provincial Apex Committee meeting in Peshawar. The meeting focused on security challenges, counterterrorism efforts, and the province’s development needs.
Governor Kundi chaired the meeting, where participants reviewed law and order and discussed measures against terrorism. They also examined the capacity of security institutions and the requirements of law enforcement agencies. Kundi said the government must protect residents and provide a safe environment. He added that all institutions must focus on their responsibilities to restore peace.

The governor said police and the Counter Terrorism Department needed stronger capabilities to address security threats. He stated that authorities had met their requirements. Kundi also stressed that security mattered more than development spending when the two priorities conflicted. He said lasting peace would help the province use its natural resources and development opportunities effectively.
Interior Minister Naqvi said the federal and provincial governments shared a common position on counterterrorism. He noted that residents wanted to live peacefully and escape the threat of terrorism. Naqvi pledged support for strengthening the police and other law enforcement agencies. He also highlighted the need to equip Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police with modern weapons.
Naqvi praised provincial police personnel for their sacrifices during counterterrorism operations. He said the province could make progress against terrorism if its government took the lead. The interior minister assured participants that the federal government would fulfil its responsibilities. He also promised assistance to strengthen security institutions and support peace efforts.

The meeting addressed both immediate security concerns and wider development issues. Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had significant resources, but insecurity limited development opportunities. Participants discussed improving institutional capacity and coordinating efforts against militant threats. B oth leaders stressed the importance of cooperation between federal and provincial authorities.
Naqvi also criticised the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government over its response to terrorism. He alleged that the former leadership had focused on road blockades and unrest instead of counterterrorism efforts. He praised residents for remaining peaceful during the current situation. The meeting concluded with renewed emphasis on strengthening law enforcement and restoring stability.
