Samsung Electronics East Africa has launched the Samsung Galaxy A18 LTE and Galaxy A08 LTE in Kenya, with prices starting at KSh 32,000 and KSh 23,300, respectively.
Both smartphones combine 90Hz displays, 50MP main cameras, IP64-rated protection and six generations of operating system upgrades, alongside six years of security maintenance releases. The launch extends Samsung’s long-term software support commitment to more affordable devices, giving buyers another factor to consider when choosing a phone they intend to keep for several years.
The two models target different priorities. The Galaxy A18 LTE offers a sharper AMOLED display and an ultra-wide camera, while the cheaper Galaxy A08 LTE has a larger battery. Their storage configurations also differ at launch, with the A18 starting at 128GB and the A08 at 64GB.
Samsung Galaxy A18 LTE and A08 LTE prices in Kenya
The Samsung Galaxy A18 LTE costs KSh 32,000 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration. An 8GB RAM and 256GB version is planned for later in the year at KSh 51,600.
The Galaxy A08 LTE starts at KSh 23,300 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model. Samsung plans to introduce a 6GB RAM and 128GB version at KSh 33,100 at a later date. Both phones support microSD expansion of up to 2TB, giving users the option to add storage for photos, videos and other files.
The entry-level price difference is KSh 8,700, with the A18 costing about 37% more than the A08. However, the base models do not offer identical storage, since the A18 comes with twice the internal capacity. Buyers choosing between them will need to weigh that difference against the A08’s larger battery and the A18’s display and camera advantages.
The planned higher-memory versions create another consideration. The A08’s 6GB/128GB configuration is priced just KSh 1,100 above the A18’s base model, although availability will determine when buyers can make that comparison in stores.
How the Galaxy A18 LTE compares with the A08
The most visible difference is the display. The Galaxy A18 LTE has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the Galaxy A08 LTE uses a 6.7-inch HD+ PLS LCD screen, also with a 90Hz refresh rate.
The A18’s higher resolution should produce sharper text, images and video, while its AMOLED technology delivers deeper blacks and stronger contrast. Both screens support smoother scrolling than a standard 60Hz display, but the difference in resolution and panel technology gives the A18 an advantage for users who spend considerable time reading, streaming or viewing photos on their phones.
The camera systems also separate the devices. The A18 combines a 50MP autofocus main camera with a 5MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP sensor. The ultra-wide camera provides additional flexibility for landscape photography, architecture and group shots, allowing users to fit more into a single frame.
The A08 has a 50MP autofocus main camera, a 2MP rear sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera. Its main camera matches the A18’s megapixel count, although that alone does not establish equivalent image quality. The A18’s dedicated ultra-wide camera gives it an additional shooting option that the A08 lacks.
Battery capacity favours the cheaper model. The Galaxy A08 LTE packs a 6,000mAh battery, compared with 5,000mAh on the A18, and both support 25W fast charging. The larger battery gives the A08 more capacity to draw on during daily use, although actual endurance will depend on factors such as screen brightness, applications and network conditions.
Both phones carry an IP64 rating for protection against dust and water splashes. Samsung also describes them as having reinforced construction, with the A18 using new glass-fibre-reinforced polymer material. The rating offers protection against everyday exposure, but it should not be treated as a guarantee that either phone can withstand immersion in water.
Six years of software support across both phones
Samsung is promising six generations of operating system upgrades and six years of security maintenance releases for both the Galaxy A18 LTE and Galaxy A08 LTE. The commitment gives the devices a longer software-support horizon than buyers might expect from phones at these prices.
Extended support can matter to people who keep their phones for several years rather than replacing them frequently. Operating system upgrades can bring new features and compatibility improvements, while security maintenance releases help address vulnerabilities that emerge after a device goes on sale. The value of that commitment will also depend on how the phones perform as applications and software requirements change.
Both devices include Samsung Knox Vault, a hardware-based security system designed to help protect sensitive information such as passwords and biometric data. It adds a dedicated security layer to the phones, complementing the software protections available through Samsung’s wider Galaxy platform.
The support commitment builds on Samsung’s existing approach across the Galaxy A series. The Galaxy A27 5G, A37 5G and A57 5G have also featured prominently in the company’s recent Kenyan portfolio, with software longevity forming part of their value proposition. Extending a comparable upgrade commitment to the A18 and A08 gives buyers at lower price points another reason to consider the devices beyond their launch specifications.
Samsung brings AI features to cheaper Galaxy phones
Samsung is also bringing its Core AI experience to both smartphones, including Circle to Search and access to AI assistants such as Gemini and Perplexity. These features give users additional ways to find information, identify content and interact with applications from their phones.
Circle to Search allows users to search for information related to content displayed on their screens. Possible uses include identifying products, looking up images, translating content and searching for music. The feature can also offer actions related to information such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses and web links.
The phones support interactions with Gemini and Perplexity through voice commands or a long press, allowing users to access AI assistance across Galaxy-native and third-party applications. The practical uses will depend on the task, the applications involved and the availability of individual features.
Samsung’s inclusion of these tools follows its broader effort to extend AI functionality beyond its more expensive smartphones. The Galaxy A27 5G, for example, has already brought Circle to Search and other AI capabilities into the Kenyan mid-range market. The A18 and A08 carry that approach further down the price range, with the A08 starting below KSh 25,000.
Both phones also include RAM Plus, which uses part of the device’s storage to provide additional virtual memory for multitasking. This does not increase the amount of physical RAM installed in the phone, but it can help the system manage memory demands in supported situations.
The devices can also connect with Samsung’s wider Galaxy ecosystem, including Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Tab products, as well as SmartThings, Samsung Health, Quick Share and Modes & Routines. These integrations give users options for sharing files, managing compatible connected devices and coordinating activities across supported products.
For buyers comparing the two models, the decision comes down to how they use their phones. The Galaxy A08 LTE offers the lower starting price and a larger battery, while the Galaxy A18 LTE provides a higher-resolution AMOLED screen, an ultra-wide camera and more internal storage in its base configuration. Both combine those differences with extended software support and access to Samsung’s AI features, giving consumers two distinct options within the company’s Kenyan smartphone lineup.
