The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has identified inadequate road access to some of its lands as a major challenge affecting its efforts to expand commercial real estate development.
The challenge comes as the Minister pushes for the establishment of a national housing fund to help address Ghana’s growing housing deficit and advance the country’s progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal on sustainable cities and communities by 2030.
Head of Corporate Planning and Communications at the agency, Dorothy A. Asare-Kumah Adolf, speaking during the visit by the sector Minister, indicated that access to land earmarked for development remains a key obstacle, particularly as TDC seeks to establish commercial facilities, including shops and offices.
The developments form part of TDC’s broader efforts to expand housing delivery and provide residential accommodation within its operational areas. The corporation is targeting March 2027 for the completion of the ongoing construction works, after which finishing works will be undertaken.
The management of the agency says addressing the challenge would help create the conditions needed to support further construction, attract investment and improve the use of its property assets.
The Minister’s engagement with the corporation forms part of a broader review of agencies under the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, with the government seeking to identify operational gaps and interventions to improve performance.
