By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government inaugurated the Mabil Ha Water System in the Toledo District on October 8, 2026.
The project was implemented in partnership with the Belize Social Investment Fund (BSIF), the Government of Belize and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to improve access to safe and reliable water for residents.
The water system represents an investment of $1,302,157.14 under the 10th Cycle of the CDB’s Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), implemented in Belize through BSIF. The project aims to improve living conditions by expanding access to an essential service in the rural community.
The new system includes 56 service connections, delivering water directly to homes and community institutions, including the village school and churches. The connections are expected to help meet residents’ daily water needs and support the operations of essential community facilities.
The inauguration marks a step toward improving access to basic services and building healthier, more resilient communities across Belize.
