Factory 25, a Brooklyn-based independent film distribution company, has acquired worldwide rights to Daisy Rosato and Nora Kaye’s first feature film “Sinner Supper Club” at the New York premiere of the film at NewFest. The film is described as a “gay mumblegore ghost story” about friends reuniting to throw a “wake” for Genevieve, who has been priced out of New York City. As the night progresses and a heatwave traps them together, their long-ignored problems boil over….and then their dead friend shows up.
The film was shot in six days on an iPhone through improvisation. It is an homage to the scrappy and experimental filmmaking that characterized both the mumblegore and Dogme 95 movements. As part of production, the filmmakers wrote a manifesto, one that explored what it means to make a film in the 2020’s, with characters that represent the queer and transgender and gender nonconforming community.
The cast includes Elise Kibler, Ashil Lee, Genevieve Simon, Jayae Riley Jr., Sophie Sagan-Gutherz, Kaye and Rosato. In addition to directing and appearing in the film, Kaye and Rosato wrote the screenplay. Rosato also served as the cinematographer.
Factory 25 is planning a spring 2027 theatrical release followed by a digital and Blu-ray release. Factory 25 has released such films as “Funny Ha Ha,” “Ham on Rye,” “Happer’s Comet,” “Actual People,” “This Closeness,” “Family Portrait,” and “Queens of the Qing Dynasty.”
NewFest was founded in 1988 in response to the AIDS crisis. The New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival has been a tentpole of NYC’s queer cultural scene. In the subsequent years, NewFest has expanded into a film and media organization with year-long programs to serve all facets of the LGBTQ+ community.
