GAUTENG — The Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has launched an investigation into Johannesburg socialite Serge Cabonge, focusing on his alleged ties to disgraced former top cop Shadrack Sibiya and Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.
eNCA's Pule Letshwiti-Jones reported on Thursday, 15 October 2026, that Cabonge was brought in for questioning on Monday, 12 October 2026. He was questioned the day before a roughly 25-minute audio recording was played during Sibiya's bail application.
In the recording, Cabonge, speaking to a man identified only as Mr M, made claims about his knowledge of dealings between Sibiya and Matlala. He also spoke about his police connections. Mr M is the father of the 16-year-old girl who is one of Sibiya's accusers.
Cabonge denies being a go-between for Sibiya and Matlala
In the recording, Cabonge distanced himself from any intermediary role between Sibiya and Matlala, pointing instead to suspended Sergeant Fannie Nkosi as the figure through whom communications ran.
He further insisted he "never collected money from Cat to give Sibiya," pushing back against what he described as false assumptions about his involvement.

Madlanga Commission seeks Cabonge's statement
Briefly News also reported that the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry moved to obtain an official statement from Cabonge.
Cabonge claimed that he used police connections to have criminal charges dropped against a person linked to the Commission.
South Africans took to social media to weigh in on Cabonge's allegations and the Commission's decision to investigate.
