The Michigan Wolverines made a difficult decision during Saturday's matchup with the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Bryce Underwood -- the program's starting quarterback for the last two seasons, a former top overall recruit, a team captain, and one of the highest-paid players in college football -- was benched after throwing two interceptions in the first half at Michigan Stadium.
Tommy Carr started the second half.

Underwood has been subject to much criticism this season, as he not only failed to take a step forward but actually seemed to take a step back as the program transitioned from Sherrone Moore to Kyle Whittingham.
Carr is royalty in Ann Arbor, Mich. -- he is the grandson of both legendary head coach Lloyd Carr, who won the 1997 National Championship and went 122-40 during his time with the program from 1995-2007, and safety Tom Curtis, who was a two-time All-American at the school and went on to play for the Baltimore Colts and won Super Bowl V. Tommy's brother, CJ, is the starting quarterback at Notre Dame.
“Well, first of all, we got to get something going on offense,” Whittingham said to CBS’ Jenny Dell going into halftime, per CBS Sports on X. “We’ve got absolutely nothing going. Not running the ball well. The only team not running the ball as well as us is them. So, neither team can run the football … Two turnovers, and … I don’t have an answer for you right now. We’re going to talk about it here at halftime. We got to get something going.”
The Wolverines trailed 3-0 at the time of the change.
