ADEN – Military and humanitarian developments continued to unfold across Yemen on Wednesday as Houthi attacks expanded on multiple fronts, resulting in civilian casualties, renewed cross-border threats, and growing concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation.
The Saudi-led Coalition supporting Yemen's internationally recognized government announced the interception and destruction of four drones launched by the Houthi movement toward the holy city of Medina and Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. The coalition said the drones were neutralized before reaching their intended targets, underscoring ongoing efforts to counter aerial threats against the Kingdom.
In a separate escalation, Houthi forces reportedly launched a ballistic missile toward Aden International Airport, raising security concerns in the temporary capital and highlighting the continued expansion of military operations beyond active front-line areas.
On the ground, fighting persisted across several battlefronts as both sides exchanged attacks amid reports of civilian casualties in areas affected by shelling and military operations.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation drew renewed international alarm. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned that the escalating conflict is disrupting basic services for nearly three million people across Yemen, with the governorate of Taiz facing particularly acute challenges.
UNICEF said the intensifying violence has aggravated displacement and deepened shortages of food and clean water in the governorate. According to the agency, Taiz is experiencing a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation as aid organizations struggle to meet growing needs.
The UNICEF Representative in Yemen stated that Taiz is effectively under siege, noting that vehicle movement into the city has largely ceased.
The city is currently hosting around 120,000 displaced people, nearly half of the approximately 250,000 individuals who have fled their homes amid the recent escalation in fighting.
Humanitarian agencies continue relief efforts despite mounting logistical challenges, warning that ongoing hostilities could further restrict access to essential services and life-saving assistance for vulnerable communities.
