New equipment is being delivered to several IVF centers and specialist infertility clinics in Hungary as part of a HUF 1.63 billion procurement program, the National Hospital Directorate General (OKFŐ) announced on Monday.
According to the announcement, equipment worth nearly HUF 1.63 billion (EUR 4.1 million) is being purchased to modernize the technical and laboratory infrastructure of infertility care.
Deliveries began in October, and additional high-value equipment is due to be installed at several IVF centers and specialist infertility clinics by the end of the year.
The project covers 13 locations and includes 157 pieces of equipment, as well as laboratory supplies. It aims to upgrade the technical and laboratory facilities at eight institutions operated by the Dunamenti REK Reproduction Center, along with five specialist infertility clinics, the directorate general said.
The procurement includes stereo, inverted and upright microscopes equipped with heated stages and cameras. These instruments enable the safe examination and highly precise handling of eggs and embryos at body temperature. The equipment also includes versions that can be integrated into sterile workstations, ensuring maximum cleanliness throughout laboratory procedures.
The upgrade also covers warming cabinets of various sizes and pharmaceutical refrigerators, which will ensure that samples, culture media and medicines are stored under strictly controlled and stable conditions.
In Hungary, one in five couples experiences difficulties conceiving when trying to have a child. This contributes significantly to the country’s declining population, making support for couples seeking to start a family particularly important, the institution emphasized.
