- Non-Qatari wives of Qatari men: Foreign women married to Qatari men can apply for permanent residency without meeting the standard eligibility conditions.
- Children of these marriages: Children of Qatari men and their non-Qatari wives are also covered by the exemption.
The ministry’s guidance indicates that these groups are specifically exempted from the usual permanent residency requirements under Qatar’s rules.
Ministry Clarifies Whether Marriage Duration Is Enough
The clarification followed a query from a resident who had been married to a non-Qatari woman for nine years and wanted to establish whether the length of their marriage was sufficient for her to qualify for permanent residency.
In its response, the ministry pointed to the specific exemption for non-Qatari wives of Qatari men and their children.
For applicants covered by this category, the usual eligibility conditions applicable to other foreign residents are not required in the same way. Consequently, the duration of the marriage, employment status and other standard requirements are not the determining factors under the exemption described by the ministry.
Foreign residents seeking to establish their eligibility should consult Qatar’s Ministry of Interior for the applicable application procedures and documentation requirements.
Qatar Outlines Permanent Residency and Citizenship Rules for Foreigners
TUKO.co.ke reported that Qatar has clarified the conditions foreigners must meet before applying for citizenship, including a requirement to have legally lived in the country for at least 25 years.
Applicants must also demonstrate financial independence, have no criminal convictions and be able to speak and write Arabic.
However, meeting the requirements does not guarantee citizenship, as the final decision rests with Qatari authorities.
